Progress Toward the Golden Sample - The Technical Journey

At ForgetSPECS, our mission to create a world-first screen clarity solution - without the need for glasses - is underpinned by one critical milestone: achieving the Golden Sample.

This isn’t just another prototype. The Golden Sample is our definitive proof of readiness for both customer use and commercial-scale production. It incorporates every design improvement, meets strict optical performance criteria, and demonstrates the viability of mass manufacturing.

How It All Began

The idea for ForgetSPECS began when our founder and inventor, Darrell Edwards, misplaced his glasses and found himself asking:

“Why am I looking at glass, through glass? Why can’t my prescription be built into my phone screen itself?”

That question sparked the concept for a “one size fits all” screen protector capable of correcting vision for a wide range of prescriptions, from -3.5 to +3.5, without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Unlike traditional vision correction technologies, Darrell’s vision was for a solution seamlessly integrated into the devices people use every day - a guiding principle that has shaped every stage of our innovation journey.

Why the Golden Sample Matters

Reaching this milestone means:

  • We can confidently validate the customer experience.

  • We can prove our production capability to investors and strategic partners.

  • We can unlock the next phase of development, including funding, market testing, and launch preparation.

Master Mould: The Foundation of Precision

The latest leap forward came with the completion of our Master Mould which is the blueprint from which all production moulds will be created.

Using advanced photoresist technology, we’ve etched our proprietary lens designs into the mould with nanometre-scale accuracy. Each lens element measures just 60 microns in diameter (around 60 millionths of a metre). At this scale, even the slightest deviation in curvature can impact optical performance.

Extensive measurement and testing have now confirmed that our radius of curvature - the precise shape that focuses light - is within production tolerance. This is a major validation of our design and manufacturing process.

From Master Mould to Production Moulds

The next step is transforming the Master Mould into quartz production moulds. This is where durability and repeatability come into play as production moulds must withstand the rigours of manufacturing while maintaining exact replication of the nanostructures.

This process is currently underway in the USA, with our partners applying precision fabrication techniques to ensure the highest possible fidelity.

Prototype Manufacturing and Testing

Once the quartz moulds are complete, they will be used to imprint our designs into new production-grade prototypes using Nano Imprint Lithography.

These prototypes will undergo two stages of testing:

  1. Laboratory Testing - in partnership with our university and technology collaborators, where we’ll measure optical performance, clarity, and durability under controlled conditions.

  2. Human Testing - to confirm that the user experience matches our performance targets in real-world conditions.

We expect this stage to begin in early September, marking an exciting point in our journey.

Looking Ahead

With every measured step, we are closing in on the Golden Sample. Once achieved, we’ll be positioned to move rapidly toward commercialisation, scaling production, and delivering our innovation to market.

For our team, this is more than a technical milestone - it’s the point where a long-held vision becomes a tangible product in people’s hands and we could not be more excited.
